Talented brass and percussion stars of tomorrow are invited to join Britain’s flagship youth brass band for a day in Taunton.
The prestigious 80-strong National Youth Brass Band of Great (NYBB of GB), which is made up of some of Britain’s best young brass and percussionists, is holding a free of charge open day during its Easter residential course at Taunton School.
The free of charge open day is to be held on April 3 at Taunton School in Somerset, during the band’s week-long residential course, which is being held between 31 March and 7 April.
The day-long workshop will provide youngsters with first-class tuition from some of Britain’s leading brass and percussion players, and to perform with the NYBBGB. Tickets for the band’s 60th anniversary concert will be also given to youngsters to attend the band’s Cadogan Hall concert in London, on April 7.
Martin Armstrong, one of Britain’s leading tenor horn players and solo horn with Brass Band of Battle Creek (USA), is to lead the day’s coaching. Martin will be supported by Richard Marshall (principal cornet, Black Dyke), David Childs (euphonium), Chris Thomas (trombone), Nick Etheridge (tuba) and Mark Landon (percussion.)
Philip Biggs, the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain’s Administrator said: “This is a great opportunity for youngsters to get some first-class coaching and to get a taste of what it means to be a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.”
The band, which is conducted by Maestro Bramwell Tovey, exists to give exceptionally gifted young brass instrumentalists between the ages of 12 and 18 the opportunity to perform advanced music and receive high quality teaching.
The NYBBGB is due to perform at the Winter Gardens in Weston super-mare on Friday, 6.
