Come and Join the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain at 60

Britain’s flagship youth brass band which celebrates its 60th anniversary at Easter with concerts in Weston super-mare and London is looking for former members from across the country to join the celebrations.

The prestigious 80-strong National Youth Brass Band of Great (NYBB of GB), which has met for week-long residential courses twice a year since its creation, has seen more than 3,000 musicians perform and train with the band since its first course in Bradford six decades ago. The Easter course will be held at Taunton School, Somerset between 31 March and 7 April.

Philip Biggs, the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain’s Administrator said: “We are really looking forward to the 60th anniversary of the band. And importantly, we are looking to track down as many former members of the band to come and celebrate with the band as possible.

“We are looking to hold a reunion for former members on the 6 and 7 April. These will be a great opportunity for former members to come and meet friends old and new. And some will be given the chance to perform with an Alumni band too.”

The band, which is conducted by its Artistic Director, Maestro Bramwell Tovey, will be holding a celebratory pre-concert party in Weston-Supermare.

Most brass section in every major symphony orchestra around the world has members who started out with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain. In addition, most of the UK’s leading brass bands have a significant membership of  former National Youth Brass Band players.
