Talented young brass and percussion players required during NYBBGB’s 60th year
Talented brass and percussion players from across the UK are invited to audition for the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and the National Youth Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain.
The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (NYBBGB) is open to musicians aged 12 to 18 and the National Children’s Brass Band of Great Britain (NYBBGB) is open to musicians aged eight to 14.
Each youngster who auditions will be given free entry into a masterclass led by one of the organisation’s internationally renowned tutors, such as Black Dyke solo trombone Brett Baker and euphonium virtuoso, David Childs, both former members.
Philip Biggs, who is the administrator of the NYBBGB and the NCBBGB, said: “We are looking at talented children and teenagers from across the UK to audition for one of the two prestigious bands.
“Both bands are a great breeding ground for talented youngsters, with many former members going on to become leading performers in the professional music and brass band world.
“Youngsters will each be given free entry into a masterclass led by one of the organisation’s first-class tutors.
The NYBBGB, which has just held its Easter course in Taunton, Somerset, is celebrating its 60th year. Courses are led by internationally renowned conductors and a team of high profile instrumentalists from the brass and orchestral field, with courses culminating in a series of high profile concerts.
The 80-strong NYBBGB holds two one-week intensive residential courses each year and the 56-strong NCBBGB holds an annual one-week intensive course each Summer.
Former members of both bands include Black Dyke Band soloists, Katrina Marzella (baritone), Zoe Hancock (flugel) and Paul Duffy (soprano.) Alumni include the 2008 Young Musician of the Year, trombonist Peter Moore, the current London Symphony Orchestra Principal Trumpet, Philip Cobb and former principal trumpet of the same orchestra, the legendary Maurice Murphy.
